Be Forward Wanderers will start their campaign in the 2019 Airtel Top 8 away against Silver Strikers in the quarter-finals following a draw held on Thursday at Mpira Village in Blantyre.
In another fixture, TN Stars who replaced Nyasa Big Bullets who are on a one year ban in the cup for indiscipline will face Karonga United at home.
Mzuni FC will play Civil Sporting Club, while Kamuzu Barracks have been paired against Masters Security FC.
Be Forward Wanderers FC team manager, Steven Madeira welcomed the draw, saying it would bring excitement.
He said: “It makes it very exciting. Out of all the matches, this is the only tricky game. It’s a tough draw and as you know Silver Strikers and us we give each other tough time. But we will give our best to reach the semi-finals. The bankers have improved a lot and we need to be at our best to beat them.”
Silver Strikers official, Mwachande said they were happy that they had been drawn against Wanderers, who were responsible for them to miss the FISD Cup last season.
“This is our time to revenge what Wanderers did to us in the FISD Cup.. We can’t complain. What we need is just to prepare thoroughly,” he said.
In his remarks, Airtel Malawi Marketing Director Frank Magombo said the third instalment of Airtel Top 8 will be recognized with the word Wakaa!!.
“Welcome to the third season of Airtel Top 8. And as l’have already explained, we want to witness more goals this year. We want to cheer for you like never before. W e want to celebrate goals with all the football fans across Malawi,” he said.
Magombo also revealed that to unpack the season abit, this time the cup will run for three months from 27th April until 29th June.
During the draw, Magombo took time to introduce the 2019 new face of Airtel Top 8, who is 32 year old Raaquib Lulu Milanzi from Blantyre.
Milanzi amassed over 777 likes and votes from the public across Airtel Official Facebook and Twitter platforms.
For the spectators, Airtel did not forget them as a number of prizes have been lined up for them to win.
“This season, football fans can win various top 8 merchandise as we interact with them in the various localities where the games will be played, and just as the previous season, football fans will be able to predict and vote for their winning teams for each match and stand a chance to win a cool K100, 000 cash based on the highest number of correct predictions that they make.
The media, who are also in fore front to make the game of football excite have been challenged with awards.
Magombo said the five lucky reporters from print, radio, online, Television and photography stand a chance to win K200,000 cash prizes each as facilitated by Sports Writers Association and Chief Judge Ellard Manjawira from the Malawi Polytechnic.
Football Association of Malawi General Secretary, Alfred Gunda assured Airtel that the football mother body will not torelate violence during matches.
“We can assure you that this year we will be more strict on hooliganism. Violence has no place in Airtel games and anyone who will try to bring violence will be punished,” said Gunda.
The Champion will get K15 million, but each and participating team will get a K1 million bonus to help them preparing for the games.
