Be Forward Wanderers are on the brink of qualifying for the Airtel Top 8 Cup after Jafar Chande and Joseph Kamwendo inspired a 2-0 rout of Azam Tigers on Sunday at Balaka Stadium.
The Nomads took the lead when Felix Zulu’s sublime pass was converted by Jafar Chande in the second half.
Then it was man of the match Joseph Kamwendo, who stole the spotlight a few minutes later with a superb solo strike and send the whole stadium into an electric mood.
After the two goals it was swaggering display from the Nomads, who bossed the game from defense to upfront.
With the second leg slated for Saturday at Kalulu Stadium, the Nomads will be guaranteed a semi final berth if they draw or beat the Kau Kau boys even with a lone goal.
The Nomads, however were two of their defenders Lucky Malata and Francis Mulimbika limped off the field of play with minor injuries while Tigers were reduced to ten men after their last man was shown marching orders for headbutting Jabulani Linje.
“At the end it was amazing but the start was not that good,” Wanderers coach Yasin Osman said.
“After that we controlled the game and took our chances. We scored some really nice goals.” Said Osman.
Wanderers vice captain Joseph Kamwendo was delighted with their victory.
“It was a perfect performance and I am happy for the victory for our fans. It was a fantastic victory which the fans deserved,” said Kamwendo, also popularly known as Shakira.
