Central defender Lucky ‘Sangweni’ Malata has revealed the main reasons why he chose to join Be Forward Wanderers this season .
The former Silver Strikers captain has become a pivotal part of Yasin Osman’s team since moving to Lali-Lubani road, establishing himself as a Nomad pillar in six pre-season matches he has played for Wanderers starting with Lake Valley, Premier Bet Wizards, Nyasa Big Bullets, Kamuzu Barracks, Silver Strikers and Mafco.
In a wide-ranging interview with the club’s official website, Malata revealed he was inspired to join the club in the hope of following in the footsteps of Be Forward Wanderers greatest players.
“I spoke with Wanderers officials and coaches and they wanted me at Wanderers. I said ‘if I get the opportunity to change clubs, you’ll be the first address for me,” said Malata.
“So what I did after that, we spoke and I decided to come to Wanderers because I remember Albert Mpinganjira, the late Hendlix Banda and Bob Mpinganjira, such good footballers and I wanted to be a part of that, to come to Wanderers to be successful.
Malata has won the Wafa-Wafa Big 4 Cup since arriving at Lali-Lubani.
“Iam enjoying playing for such a big club like Wanderers. The fans are so fantastic and l love their support. I was warmly welcome by my fellow players, technical panel and executive. All l can say is that l want to help my club to win the League this season,” said Malata, who reside in Chigumula township with his teammate Rafiq Namwela.
