It’s Wanderers Against Silver in FAM Charity Shield

BE Forward Wanderers have been paired against Silver Strikers in Football Association of Malawi’s Charity Shield.

The game was supposed to be played on Saturday, March 31 but FAM shifted the game to next weekend.

In the announcement made on Wednesday during press briefing conducted at the Mpira Village in Blantyre, FAM’s General Secretary Alfred Gunda said among the factors they thought it wise to shift the Bonanza to pave way for the junior flames who are participating in the Under 20 African Cup Of Nations Qualifiers against Swaziland at Bingu National Stadium

“We have decided to shift charity shield games ahead as we can’t host two events in a space of a single day.

“To us it is reasonable that we should host the under 20 in a qualifier match against Swaziland and then Charity Shield,”he said.

Commenting on the progress of charity shield FAM’s Marketing and Commercial Director Limbani Matola disclosed they are targeting to raise about k10m from this year’s charity shield

Matola explained, this can be achieved because stakeholders, teams and owners have now fully appreciated the concept unlike the previous years as they will not charge their usual charging fees experienced before

“The charity shield was not making significant supply interms of revenue as stakeholders were rendering their services at a commercial fee

“This year we had time to engage them so that they should appreciate and support the concept of the charity shield

“We are glad to report that Nyasa Big Bullets and Be forward Wanderers will only get k2m per day to carter for the accommodation and others logistics.Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks will only get k1m, as for the owner of Bingu National Stadium have offered us k1m for using the facility

“Our wish is to get the gate revenue of k10m after all expenses,”Said Matola.

The proceeds from this year’s charity shield beneficiaries will be Ekwendendeni for the school of blind in Mzimba District
