Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers played to a 1-1 draw in the Blantyre Derby at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Peoples Team went into the encounter on the back of a morale-boosting 3-1 victory against Karonga United in their previous fixture. Coach Rodgers Yasin named an unchanged squad to the team that defeated the Ingwina of Karonga.
The Nomads were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Masters Security in their previous encounter, and Bob Mpinganjira made two changes to his team, with Mike Kaziputa, Zicco Mkanda handed starting berths.
The Nomads got off to a brighter start of the two teams as Rabson Chiyenda was forced into making an early save from a good long-range effort by man of the moment Yamikani Chester.
Bullets were content to let Wanderers enjoy the majority of the possession and looked to play on the counter-attack.
Wanderers had their first sniff of goal in the tenth minute when a turn of possession saw Chester’s defence-splitting pass almost find Esau Kanyenda in the area, but goalkeeper Chiyenda anticipated the move and did well to thwart the effort.
For all their possession, Wanderers never really bothered Bullets, and the home side continued to clear their lines with ease.
Come 21st minute, Wanderers vastly experienced striker, Esau Kanyenda opened the score sheet after glancing into the net a corner kick from Joseph Kamwendo.
Thereafter, Bullets came agonizingly close to secure an equalizer in the 28th minute when Chiukepo Msowoya got on to the end of Henry Kabichi’s free kick, but his header was well tamed by Nenani Juwayo.
Yamikani Chester looked to be Wanderers go-to-guy and the winger was in the mood, with his confidence, pace and trickery proving a nuisance for Bullets defence.
Zicco Mkanda saw his 40th minute effort go straight into the hands of Chiyenda after a good attacking spell of play by the visitors.
Bullets almost equalized moments before the half-time break, but Patrick Phiri’s fine effort from a corner kick was parried away by Juwayo.
Phiri was gifted a chance at goal after being given acres of space, but the midfielder blasted his effort into the side netting.
