Be Forward Wanderers lost 4-3 in post-match penalties to Blue Eagles on Sunday at Bingu National Stadium in Bingu Ikhome Bonanza.
The game ended 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, forcing it to go into penalty shoot-outs.
Bongani Kaipa’s penalty was saved by Eagles’ goalkeeper John Soko after Onesmor Mbendera had converted his spot kick making the cops to be crowned the Bingu Ikhome Bonanza championship.
Schumacher Kuwali, Mbendera, Vitumbiko Kumwenda and Kingsley Kuwali managed to convert their spot kicks for the Eagles while Maxwell Salambula and Gilbert Chirwa saw theirs denied by Richard Chipuwa.
Wanderers converted through Lucky Malata, Alfred Mayonzo Jnr and Francis Mulimbika while Babatunde Adepoju and Bongani Kaipa’s penalties were saved by Soko. Francis Mkonda also missed the penalty as he smashed the crossbar.
Blue Eagles were first to score 9 minutes in the first half before Wanderers’s equalizer a few minutes later courtesy of Francis Mkonda.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Be Forward Wanderers assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, said it was just unlucky day for the Lali Lubani boys.
“We can’t blame players. We played good football and the players did a good job. But penalties are lotteries,” he said.
Wanderers got K2.5 million for coming second in the two-day bonanza. Silver Strikers, who defeated Nyasa Big Bullets 2-1 in the third-place play-off earlier in the day, pocketed K1.5 million whereas Bullets received K1 million for becoming fourth.
